Bambatu Napangardi Pintupi, b. 1942

Bambatu Napangardi commonly employs line and dotting techniques in order to depict body painting designs and the many traditional symbols related to the Central Desert landscape. Her intricately weaving line and dot compositions are a distinctive feature of Napangardi's work.

Napangardi was born around 1942 in Winron, east of Kiwirrkura. She grew up living a traditional life with her family in the bush. While visiting relatives in Balgo, she met her husband Dinni Campbell Tjampitjinpa, an established Western Desert painter. Napangardi was an apprentice to Tjampitjinpa for a number of years. She eventually began painting her own interpretations of the dreaming stories passed down by her mother and father.
