Charlie Tjapangati Pintupi , b. 1949

A renowned Aboriginal Western Desert painter, Charlie Tjapangati creates vibrant, works of monumental scale, typically depicting the sacred and secret Tingari cycle.

Born around 1949, Charlie Tjapangati began painting for the Papunya Tula Artists cooperative in 1978. He is now one of the leading artists within the cooperative. Tjapangati's style has been largely inspired by the older men, whom he painted alongside whilst living in the West Camp of Papunya. In 2000, Tjapangati was commissioned with four additional artists to complete a ground painting at the Art Gallery of NSW.  He has appeared in various solo and group exhibitions throughout his career.
